Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a State visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6, where he is expected to hold high-level bilateral talks and oversee the exchange of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two nations.
During his visit, PM Modi will meet with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya to discuss strengthening bilateral ties. The visit aims to reinforce diplomatic, economic, and security cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.
According to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, PM Modi will also visit Anuradhapura to pay homage at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi and inaugurate several development projects supported by the Government of India.
Additionally, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other senior officials will accompany the Prime Minister.
Before arriving in Sri Lanka, PM Modi will be in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 3-4 to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, hosted by Thailand. His presence at the summit aligns with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ and ‘Act East’ policies.
PM Modi’s last visit to Sri Lanka was in 2019. The upcoming trip is expected to bolster India-Sri Lanka relations, with a focus on economic development, maritime security, and cultural ties.
The MEA emphasized that this visit will deepen the “multi-faceted partnership” between the two nations and reaffirm India’s vision for regional security and economic cooperation through initiatives like ‘MAHASAGAR’ (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
With multiple agreements expected and high-level engagements planned, PM Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka is set to further strengthen India’s regional partnerships and diplomatic outreach.
